A.C.Ryan ACR-PV73100 Playon! Digital HD Media Player

We watched a few products from the Dutch company ACRYAN. Back in 2008, he was the ACR-PV72100 Playon! Network DVR, which was a well-featured if not spectacular HDD recorder at the time. However, in May 2009′s Playon! DVR TV, Media Player devices directly as WDTV Western Digital HD Media Player had moved the goalposts away from recorders, and with his lack of support form the Playon! Now ACRYAN seeks to correct this with the New Playon! HD media player, and if the specifications are anything to go by it on an absolute winner. It supports all video formats in popular use, including not only the MOV and MKV, but also rarities such as ASF, RMVB and FLV, all up to 1080p on HDMI and component – and for enthusiasts home theater there is even 1080p 24 support. It addresses both Dolby and DTS (pass-through or mixed to stereo), audio codec support and extensive subtitles and offers both a wired and wireless-N with the NAS functionality, YouTube and BitTorrent. Exceptionally, it may even play media from external CD / DVD!

So far, this pretty much makes it more capable of under £ 150 media player we’ve reviewed, outstripping even the Popcorn Hour A110 and the new HD Live WDTV. Best of all, it is quite affordable, with prices starting at £ 130. However – as the unfortunate VMP30 ViewSonic Digital Media Player proven – we can not always go by what the spec sheet claims, so it’s a good thing, we’re here to let you know if it’s worth your hard – won.

The! Playon HD comes with a generous bundle. A highlight is the two-meter HiFX Evolution HDMI cable, which costs about 40 pounds on her own.
