ALK CoPilot Live 8 Version 3.0 Operating System 3GS iPhone
January 13, 2010 | Cell Phones, Navigation, Software | 3 CommentsWith the release of the Apple iPhone 3GS and version 3.0 operating system, a number of vendors began offering full functionality, sat-nav apps for most headline-grabbing world of smartphone, beginning with Garmin and TomTom. But the application that has particularly attracted the attention of iPhone owners since then has been ALK CoPilot Live, especially because the United Kingdom and Ireland version is about half the price of its competitors.

All these functions use the data link on your iPhone mobile or Wi-Fi when available. However, three plants live are already included, even with the basic software. This is the live link, weather and road assistance. However, it just gives you a number for the AA with the facility to call directly from your iPhone, with all the details of your current location. So it’s not quite as “live” as other functions. The Weather Service lists a five-day forecast for the location of your choice, and you can get a more detailed report on a given day, even if it means leaving CoPilot and loading the AccuWeather site in Safari.
Live Link is designed to help you track your friends and facilitate meetings with them. However, they must also be using CoPilot and be signed by direct link for this to work. You’ll be able to draw a map showing where they are, and also send them messages, which may include information about your current location, they can use to meet you. You can also track your friends who have signed a direct link via the website CoPilot, and send messages from here too. All this seems very impressive, and install Web could even be used to coordinate a fleet of vehicles. But its exclusive nature limits its usefulness. [via trustedreviews]
