Asus Eee PC 1005PE 10.1in Netbook

    February 9, 2010 | Asus, Notebook | 2 Comments

Since the original netbook, the Asus Eee PC 900, way back made his debut in 2008, netbooks are flying off the shelves at a rate of knots. Despite this success, however, the only notable innovation has been the material nVidia chipset ION hardly used. Intel has finally done something about this in the release of its new netbook chipsets, codenamed Pine Trail, and the Asus Eee PC 1005PE is one of the first netbook to use it.

We have the details of Pine Trail later, but first let’s look at the chassis. Anyone familiar with the Asus Eee PC 1008HA, the first “Seashell theme ‘Eee PC, will recognize similarities in 1005PE and is a design that we really like. Despite there being so many choices these days, looks only the clean lines of the 1005PE put near the top – even if the removable battery means that it lacks the finesse of the 1008HA.

At 1.3 kilograms, the 1005PE is a few hundred grams heavier too, but that’s about what you expect from a 10in netbook with a six-cell battery. With thicker also denies the need for flaps on the ports, which is probably more practical anyway.

Even with all these changes, however, 1005PE retains the same look and feel, including the glossy finish high maintenance. This probably works better on the white version that we have, where his black bezel contrasts sharply with the white body. They do not show fingerprints and grease as easily as the black version can not.

Chiclet keyboard and touchpad seamlessly complete the classic look, which is further enhanced by matching buttons faux chrome power at the moment on Express Gate OS and touchpad. Construction quality is also very strong, with few signs of creaking or flex, although for better or worse, it lacks the toy-like robustness of the original Eee PC. [via
