Blu-Ray Dvd Disc Storage System
May 22, 2009 | Component, Gadgets, Portable Storage | 1 CommentBlu-Ray is beginning to have traction, but perhaps it will be too late now as a new type of storage media could be Blu-Ray look tiny. Researchers at the University of Technology Swinburne are working on a new storage system that uses nanotechnology to create five dimensions of the disks that have a huge storage capacity. Using nanotechnology, it keeps the disc from the same physical size.

The size of the color was created using gold NANORODS which are located on the surface of discs. These particles of light to react to different wavelengths of color to be used on the same location of the disk to create more capacity. A normal DVD is recorded with only one color wavelength which means that the surface can only store 1 data point at a particular point on the disc.
With the ability to polarization rotation of 360 degrees allows more layers of information stored at 90 degrees to the other without any interference.
The disadvantages of such a capability is the complexity of it. The recording and reading is not only the fastest at the proceedings being complex. But that does not mean it is not possible to accelerate. Hopefully within the next few years we will see this technology as the public. [ via gadgetvenue ]
