Canon IXUS 105 Digital Camera
April 26, 2010 | Canon, Digital Camera | 1 CommentCanon Digital IXUS range has been the benchmark for luxury ultra-compact for a decade. It may not be the market leader right now, but Canon is never far from the top, and stands up there, continually updating its range of camera. A recent new models is that, the IXUS 105. There is an entry-level model, second from the bottom of the Ixus range. It is a 12.1 megapixel camera with 4x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch 230K screen and optical image stabilization. It is currently selling for around £ 160 on the high street.

If this sounds vaguely familiar specification, it is probably because the IXUS 105 shares most of its features with another recent addition to the range, the more expensive IXUS 120 IS. It shares the same sensor, target and monitor screen, but the cheapest IXUS 105 is missing some of the more advanced features, especially HD video recording. This also implies that it is very similar to the Ixus 110 IS. Although the lack IXUS 105 IS “suffix to its name it can not always have the same optical system of image stabilization as other Canon compact.
The IXUS 105 has not some of the stylish design and premium quality construction that characterizes the rest of the Canon range. The body is mostly aluminum and chrome plastic trim, but it does not feel quite as strong as some of its more expensive siblings. The battery cover has a rather fragile plastic hinge, the tripod bush is made of plastic and the slide switch with three positions for selecting the mode feels a bit cheap. In terms of overall treatment, it is not bad, but the rounded shape and smooth do a bit slippery and position of the rear panel controls do not leave much room to grab the camera.
