You could be forgiven for not noticing the new range of Canon PIXMA All-In-One printers, because they are all very similar to their predecessors. Slightly different lines of their silver and black squares are probably not enough to distinguish the models last year, but the PIXMA MP640 there is a telltale sign, a blue flashing Wi-Fi logo.It is a midrange all-in-one with many subtleties Canon uses in its machines, the dual paper tray and CD / DVD direct printing.

The control panel is particularly well presented with large, easy to use buttons for main functions, two programmable buttons for context-sensitive input and little click wheel canon’s unique selection of menu options. Under the lid there is a standard flatbed scanner and if you lift the whole section scanning, you get easy access to all five rounds in the semi-permanent head carrier.

The right front corner of the hand has a curved hood, which depends open to reveal three slots for memory cards, CompactFlash adding to the standard SD, MemoryStick and xD mix. Below the slots is a USB jack, which can take USB and PictBridge cameras. Paper handling is versatile, with a 150-cassette that slides underneath the machine forward, completing a standard 150-sheet tray stand at the back. Canon recommends that you use the rear tray for photo blanks and tape plain paper, but both are capable of feeding one or the other media.

Canon offers a good selection of software and support, including an excellent CD / DVD label design applet. Drivers are provided for both Windows and OS X and install it in a simple, workmanlike.
