Creative Unveils Vado Pocket Video HD Camera

HD Vado retains many features of attractive design of the Vado original, including a large 2-inch antiglare LCD.
HD Vado is only a hair larger than the Flip Mino HD, making it very Pocket-friendly. The HD Vado is high, 2 inches, 680 x 240 pixel display does a great job of watching a video, too, if it is a little hard to see in sunlight.
More importantly, however, the Vado has something that neither the Kodak Zi6 the Flip Video or MinoHD a: a mini HDMI connector for output 1080i video to your HDTV with a standard AV composite output. Surprisingly, Creative also bundles an HDMI cable, but not a composite cable.
Vado records HD video to AVI using the H.264 codec. The camcorder is compatible with Windows XP and Vista, and with Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The built in 8GB storage holds up to 2 hours of 720p high definition video in HD + mode (flow level), up to 4 hours of footage in HD mode (always 720p video, but at a rate lower) and up to 8 hours of standard definition VGA (640 x 480 resolution) video.
Its white balance is good enough to avoid the dreaded yellow tint, and manages moving between different lighting conditions well. HD Vado is a pretty slick package. It lacks of some other camcorders in its class, like the series Flip Mino, and it lacks a Mac compatible video management app. However, good overall image quality, battery user replaceable, and other refinements to make the HD option Vado attention worthy of a HD camcorder pocket.
