    Duran Duran World Congress Awards Party Mobile Communications

    The GSMA, which represents the interests of the global industry of mobile communications, announced that Duran Duran, one of rock bands the world over success, will head the Congress Party & Awards Celebration Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Writer, actor and techie his own admission, Stephen Fry, will host and present the awards, which took a new two-part format, including an afternoon awards ceremony and the party that evening celebration.

    Celebrating excellence and innovation in mobile communications worldwide, the mobile industry’s leading annual awards include categories for mobile entertainment, Marketing & Advertising, Mobile Services, Innovation and Technology and green and Mobile Awards for Best Contribution to Mobile Social and Economic Development. The Global Mobile Awards presentation will take place in the afternoon Tuesday, February 16 at the main conference auditorium at the Congress.

    At the official Congress Party & Awards Celebration at the National Palace in Barcelona later the same evening, three prestigious awards for the year will be presented, including best mobile technology, the GSMA Chairman’s Award and the Mobile Industry Person of the Year. The evening will be hosted by Stephen Fry and will end with a headline performance by Rock band Duran Duran.

    Duran Duran are currently finalizing their 13th studio album, produced by Mark Ronson, for broadcast in early 2010. Over the last thirty years the band has topped the charts worldwide, with 18 American hit singles and 30 in the UK. With a global presence which guarantees them the enormous public concerts on five continents, they have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Group’s keyboardist and founding member, Nick Rhodes, will also be interviewed as part of the keynote session Mobile Entertainment in the conference program at Mobile World Congress, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in Barcelona.
