Epson Combining 3D Scanner
In computers, a scanner is an optical device that scans images, printed text, writing, or an object and converts it into a digital image. The examples found in offices are variations on your desktop (or flat) scanner when the document is placed on a window glass for scanning.

Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by hand, have evolved from scanning text “sticks” from 3D scanners used for industrial design, reverse engineering, test and measurement equipment, orthotics , Games and other applications. Scanners that mechanically move the document are generally used for large-format documents, where a shelf design is not practical.
Modern scanners typically use a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a Contact Image Sensor (CIS) that the image sensor, whereas the old drum scanners use photomultiplier tubes as the image sensor. A rotary scanner used for high-speed scanning of documents, is another type of drum scanner, using a CCD instead of a photomultiplier. Other types of scanners are planetary scanners, which take photos of books and documents, and 3D scanners, for the production of three-dimensional models of objects.
Another category of scanner is a digital camera scanners, which are based on the concept of reprographic cameras. Given the increased resolution and new features like Anti-Shake, digital cameras have become an attractive alternative to scanners. While having disadvantages compared to traditional scanners (such as distortions, reflections, shadows, low contrast), digital cameras offer advantages such as speed, portability, soft thickness of the scanning of documents without damage the spine of the book. New digital technologies are combining 3D scanners with digital cameras to create full-color, photo-realistic 3D models of objects.
