HTC Touch 3G Phone

When the HTC Touch has appeared a year ago, securities shouted “iPhone killer” as its ability to innovate based on the touch screen was leagues ahead of anything we had seen before. But then, the iPhone has come and watch garbage. The Touch 3G, on the surface, is a 3G version of the original Touch, but several things are much better. It uses Windows 6.1 instead of 6, plus the updated HTC Touch 2D system. This has been seen on the disappointing Touch Diamond a feature-packed phone that has been too slow and unresponsive.

But the Touch 3G has set almost all of these problems. The touch interface 2D flies along and, in places, it is almost as much fun to use an iPhone. The keyboard on the screen feels more sensitive than before, and we are pleased to enter in text messages and addresses of Web sites with a single inch. It is filled with features, including Bluetooth, wireless Internet and GPS, and comes with a wired hands-free kit.

A useful feature is a super-simple modem function that allows you to plug it into a computer’s USB port to connect to the Internet – most often a right kerfuffle. It is still faster to tap phones with keyboards, but the features are packed, it is pleasant to use, the screen feels great on a small 71mm (96g) phone and the price is reasonable.

Battery life is low, but if you want an elegant, small but powerful phone, it is little better. A new 2G version costs $ 599, and Touch owners can upgrade their phones for free. [ via theage ]
