Turning to more practical considerations, there is a headphone jack on top so you can easily use your own headphones for listening to music. The sound quality is very good and we welcome the fact that it pauses the music when you unplug your headphones. On the bottom is the ubiquitous mini-USB data and charging socket so you should rarely have difficulty finding a replacement cable for charging. Next to this is where the stylus is stored, while on the left, there is a volume rocker and a microSD slot, which forces you rather annoying to be walking back to access.

Once the back is off, the battery is revealed and there is a 1100mAh unit. HTC cites figures impressive battery life of six hours of talk time and 20 days standby, but we found this led to three good days between charges, which is decent. The camera is only 3.2 megapixels and lacks autofocus and a flash if its uses are limited. However, it can take pictures very quickly, managing a picture every two seconds. It can also record video spoofs if the iPhone 3G in this regard.

The screen measures 2.8in diagonally, which is rather small by today’s standards that, when combined with a resolution of only 240 x 320 pixels and viewing angles less impressive, it leaves much to as desired media player. It never feels particularly restrictive in daily use as a phone, however, and it is at least somewhat more colorful and vivid.
