First tipped to reach the market in October, 3G compatible 8.1-inch touchscreen eBook reader is now several months late and does not seem to change anytime soon, according to a spokesman for the company, DR800SG ” encountered unexpected delays “and IREX not yet announced a new release date.
iRex has refused to explain the exact nature of this delay, which leaves us unclear as to whether it is a hardware problem, a problem of content delivery or something. The ebook reader was to bring together the combined efforts of the 3G network of Verizon, Barnes & Noble eBookstore, newspaper and direct LibreDigital, and – perhaps most precious of all the popular linear at Best Buy.
For this, iRex suggested a price of $ 399.99, but with preorderings not yet been taken and no ads – with the exception of a short lived product page on Best Buy site – it is difficult to say whether they stuck to that price. The product page also suggested DR800SG would be down for that $ 449, considerably higher than the price of $ 259 Kindle or corner. [via slashgear]
