LG Flatron 1730P Ergonomic Position

The Flatron 1730P is the latest LG 17in TFT monitor aimed at home users. Its design is a vast improvement on the previous society of LCD screens, even if it does not look quite as good as the L1720 series.

The monitor has a strong circular base and is height adjustable, so you will not have to perch it atop a stack of books to find the right ergonomic position. The screen can also rotate 90 degrees, which lets you view your desktop or in landscape or portrait mode.

The Flatron best asset is its response time of 12ms. The group of pixels can cycle on and off very quickly, reducing the ghosting or streaking effect common in fast-moving images. In theory, this makes it ideal for playing games or watching movies. In practice, we have not noticed a real improvement over screens with a slightly slower rate.

The 1730P has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 and displays images with high contrast. Colors tend to be slightly more saturated, but slightly improve things after a bit of manual adjustment. Overall, the picture quality is good.

The screen is fairly wide horizontal viewing angle, which facilitates group viewing, but its limited vertical angle is disappointing. We found it almost impossible to distinguish some shades of gray when looking at the screen of a central location. Tones are more defined when viewing the screen from an angle, but this means that the other colors begin to fade.

The Flatron 1730P is disappointing in some areas, but its relatively low price means that these defects can be easily overlooked. If you want a screen that offers a decent picture quality, dual entry capacity, and an emphasis on video games or reading, it is certainly worth considering.
