Panasonic DMP-B15 Portable Blu-ray Player Navigation

The unit is not particularly compact or elegant, but it is solidly constructed and has an unusual design. The screen folds open like a regular portable drive, but then you must rotate the screen 180 degrees, pull down and prop it up like a picture frame using the plastic seal on the back . This in turn makes viewing a little more complicated than usual, especially since the stand does not stop flush with the back panel, and all the buttons are poorly placed along the top edge. These include reading, select AV and volume controls, and a small joystick for menu navigation.

The lower section houses bulky disc tray and built-in speakers, while on the side, you will find a generous array of connections. Note especially HDMI output for supplying the hi-def picture (available in 1080/24p) and bit stream HD audio to a receiver when using the DMP-B15 as a Blu-ray scheduled.

He is joined by a headphone jack and a single mini jack that outputs AV Composite Video / stereo audio and supports the same signals from external sources. Because the DMP-B15 is a Profile 2.0 player, there’s also an Ethernet port that lets you connect to the Internet and download movie extras. As a bonus, you can also access Panasonic Viera Cast gate and watch movies on YouTube or see their photos in Google Picasa. This is as smooth and pleasant to use as regular Panasonic Blu-ray decks, but the novelty factor is increased to be displayed on the small screen. [via trustedreviews]
