Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ45 SLR Digital Camera

Like the FZ38 is a gradual upgrade of the FZ28 a year earlier, the FZ45 has many similarities with the previous model, but also a number of important improvements. The two most obvious changes are the lens, which has grown from a 18x zoom to a larger f/2.8-5.2 24x zoom equivalent to 25 – 600mm, and the sensor, which is still a small chip 1 / 2, 33 inches, but had an increase in resolution from 12.1 to 14.1 megapixels.

The design of the body as the reflex has not changed much since the FZ7 launched in 2006, although the new camera is slightly larger and slightly heavier than the FZ38, and has seen a major revision to the control layout. The fixed wide-angle LCD screen is also slightly larger, expanding by 2.7 inches to 3.0 inches, but keeping the same resolution 230K. Most of the main features of FZ38 has been selected, in particular its 1280 x 720 HD video with stereo sound and AVCHD recording Lite.

In fact, the FZ45 is one of two successors to the FZ38. Launched simultaneously was the FZ100 which has the same 24x zoom lens and 14.1 megapixel resolution, but has a superior performance MOS sensor, a fully articulated screen 3.0-inch 460K and 1920 x 1080 Full HD (1080i ) video recording in AVCHD format. The FZ100 is the top model of the two, with a prize of £ 479 compared to the FZ45 £ 359.

While super-zooms have seen their traditional role of “bridge”, standing between boxes and digital SLRs, usurped by the latest compact cameras, there are still lots of them around and faces FZ45 fierce competition. Notable examples include the excellent value Pentax X90 (£ 230), the Nikon P100 (£ 280), the Samsung WB5000 (280 pounds) and incredibly impressive Fujifilm S200EXR (£ 315). Faced with these competing market looks quite expensive FZ45, FZ100 and more.
