Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 Digital Camera
February 26, 2010 | Digital Camera, Panasonic | 1 CommentJust under a year ago, I reviewed the Lumix TZ7, then the latest model of selling line of Panasonic Long Voyage zoom compact cameras. As you can see after the near-record-65 comments that it was a popular magazine, in fact the second most read article on all the PPC (the first is always the Lumix FZ 38. But we could have a new contender for the most page-views as, for today, I take a look at the TZ7 successor, the much anticipated Lumix TZ10.

The long-zoom compact market is, as I have already noticed, extremely competitive, and there are several very impressive new cameras launched within weeks of each other, as the CX3 excellent Ricoh or Canon SX210 IS. The TZ7 was the camera to beat in this area for the past year, so Panasonic has gone all out to ensure that the TZ10 is loaded with enough features to keep on top of its market area for the rest of this year.
The TZ10 has a 14.5-Megapixel multi-aspect CCD sensor with an image size up to 12 megapixels, a high quality Leica 12x optical zoom lens f/3.3-f/4.9 equivalent to 25-300mm, an extra box of three inch 460k monitor with wide viewing angle, 720p HD video recording with stereo audio, optional manual exposure and an integrated GPS receiver for automatic location registration with a database of more than half a million designated institutions and landmarks in the world. A kitchen sink optional accessory is rumored to launch in early April.
Externally at least the TZ10 is almost identical to the TZ7. This is not a bad thing because that Panasonic got the ergonomics right about the previous model, and some changes to the design of TZ10 are only slight improvements. The solid metal housing is exactly the same size and almost the same form, although the small handful has a different shape and a little more comfortable and the controls on the top panel has been rearranged. The mode selector which I criticized for being too soft has been stiffened and turned now with a click of the company. The only outward signs of change within the raised bump on the top panel which houses probably the GPS satellite antenna, and a few more notches on the mode dial. The rear panel also now has an extra button that adjusts the exposure settings in manual exposure modes. [via trustedreviews]
