Personally Motherboard Component Hardware

Are you confused by the wide range of motherboards there? Choose a good motherboard is one of the most daunting tasks when building your own computer. All components of your system finally connect to the motherboard, if you choose a bad board, the system will have problems. Personally, I think the motherboard is an item, you should not skimp on – buy the best you can afford. I saw many good PC otherwise bogged down by a bad mother.

First and most important thing to consider when buying your motherboard – what CPU or processor are you using? Motherboards are made differently, not all motherboards will support all CPUs. What processor you choose will determine the type of motherboard you. For example, if you want to use an Intel Pentium 4 CPU, the motherboard you choose must be able to support this brand and model of processor. The motherboards are also intended to support CPU speeds, so make sure it can support processor speed as well.

What is a chipset? Well, chipsets are the main controllers on the motherboard – it enables the processor to interface with the various components and expansion cards installed. When choosing your chipset, always bear in mind the type of memory supported by the motherboard. Make sure that the council supports the type and amount of RAM you need. Usually, the choice of a chipset that supports high-speed memory will allow your system to get better results.

If you intend to different devices to the computer, then the number and type of expansion slots and connectors is important. By default, most motherboards these days have USB 2.0 ports built into their design. If you do a lot of video capture and editing, you’ll want a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port. If you intend to buy expansion cards, make sure that the board comes with a large number of PCI slots.

If you want to overclock your CPU (though I do not particularly encourage it) – you should ensure you get a motherboard that supports overclocking. You want a motherboard that has a wide range of adjustments CPU parameters, including CPU voltage and bus speeds. These days, most motherboards have a host of extra features loaded into them. It can be things like onboard Ethernet, audio, a RAID controller or even graphic. I find these functions that are practical because they help you save money – you do not buy additional expansion cards.

In short, make sure you do your homework when buying a motherboard. Go to the motherboard manufacturer’s Web site and read about its products. Download the motherboard manual and see if its well documented. At the risk of sounding biased, I always preferred ASUS motherboards. However, its all to you. Consider what features are important to you and pick your motherboard. As I said earlier, do not skimp on the motherboard. Its one of the most important PC components, so the best you can afford.
