Ideal for authoring providers and system builders, the Pioneer BD / DVD / Blu-ray CD offers a performance writer, said fast demanding professional applications. High-Speed 12x write capability allows users to professionals and amateurs to quickly test, maintain and author high definition content. The new Pioneer Blu-ray writer is available immediately. The commercial version of this product, the BDR-2205 will be available Q1 2010 for $ 249 MSRP.

The name Blu-ray Disc is derived from the blue-violet laser used to read the disc. While a standard DVD uses a 650 nanometer red laser, Blu-ray uses a shorter wavelength, a 405 nm blue-violet laser, and allows data storage of almost six times more than DVD.
