Samsung NX10 Digital SLR Camera
May 15, 2010 | Digital Camera, Samsung | Comments OffWhen Panasonic launched the Lumix G1 at the end of 2008, he was the first of a new device, so new in fact that industry and the journalists who write about it have yet to agreement on the taxonomy of species. Some prefer “compact interchangeable lens, which is much too difficult to pronounce, after a few pints, a crucial issue for journalists picture above. Only a little less onerous is “mirrorless camera system, which is more general and therefore more useful.

We’d better all agree on a name soon, because it seems there will be much more about them . Olympus is having some success with his elegant pen set, and now Samsung has decided to put his hand on the act with the launch of its new NX10 camera and a selection of lenses and accessories.
There is a fundamental difference between the NX10 and its two rivals in the market. Although both Olympus and Panasonic make more use Micro Four Thirds sensor in their cameras, the Samsung NX10 uses a 14.6-megapixel CMOS APS-C, the same size as most conventional digital SLR cameras. In theory, this could give the NX10 a significant advantage in picture quality, with the possibility of a high dynamic range and low light performance. This is certainly not a disadvantage in terms of height and weight. The NX10 measures 123 x 87 x 39.8mm (body), and weighs 413g with battery and memory card. This compares favorably with the 124 x 83.6 x 74mm and 432g of the new Panasonic G2 (review coming later this week). Samsung has achieved these compact dimensions of the same as Panasonic, eliminating the reflex mirror and replacing bulky pentaprism optical viewfinder with an LCD electronic viewfinder.
Samsung has set the price very competitive NX10. The starter kit including the camera and a beautiful 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) is currently available for around £ 490. Panasonic recently launched entry-level G10 model is extremely little more expensive at £ 500 (£ 600 in some places) for the kit 14-42mm mode, while the new price Lumix G2 kit is about £ 700. The G1 origin is still available for around £ 350 with kit lens on older 14-45mm, but probably not for too long. The kit Olympus Pen E-P1 is about 500 pounds, while the new price P2 Pen E-finder kit is about £ 825 GBP.
Samsung has developed a new lens mount system for the NX, an inner diameter of about 42mm, smaller than 48.5 mm Pentax K mount used on its previous full-frame DSLR, and only slightly larger than the 41.5 mm from the Micro Four Thirds used by Panasonic and Olympus. Accordingly, the NX system lenses can be very compact, and the standard kit lens is not much bigger or heavier than the Panasonic Optical Image Stabilizer 14-42mm Lumix accompanying the G2 and G10. Currently available lenses include a 30mm f2 NX pancake lens (equivalent to 45mm with the 1.5x conversion factor) at a price of around £ 220, and an image stabilized 50-200mm f/4-5.6 telephoto lens for about £ 170, which is the same size as a standard lens APS-C and look very bulky body NX10 lowercase. Both zoom lenses are currently available integrated OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), with switches for this purpose and the autofocus mounted on the side of the lens barrel.
Five other goals for the NX system have recently been announced, a 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom compact 20mm pancake lens a wide angle, a 18-200mm superzoom f/3.5-6.3 OIS 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens and a probably cheaper non-OIS 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom. They will, according to Samsung, will be available before the end of the year. [via trustedreviews]
