    Samsung R780 Elegant Design Notebook

This is where the likes of Samsung R780 come in. With a 17.3in display the commander R780 is a real laptop desktop replacement, offering up plenty of processing power and a chassis that is not at all cramped or difficult to use.

The design of the R780 is more or less identical to the R580 from Samsung, but bigger. It has the same funky design and cover holographic graduated black / red finish, a theme that has continued in the main (if not the appearance) inside. This elegant design that is catchy yet facilitated by the generally light touch Samsung apart from the various models, the R780 is not tainted by too many vagaries of fancy.

It is difficult to have quibbles with the product specification, especially as our version (NP-R780-JS0BUK) includes a Blu-ray and all the usual bits and pieces. These include an Intel Core i5 chilly-430M, with two cores running at 2.26 GHz and share a 3MB cache. There are 4 GB of DDR3 RAM too, if once more fails to install a Samsung 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium to make use of it. A 500GB hard drive provides storage space.

Neither do not skimp on the Samsung wired and wireless connectivity options. Wireless-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both included, as well as Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed wired network. A total of four USB ports, one eSATA supports and monitors charging power, ensure you rarely without a spare. HDMI and VGA are present for the video, there are two audio jacks (headphone 1x, 1x microphone) and a 34mm ExpressCard slot if necessary. Only the addition of mini-FireWire could improve things and this is not a connection that many people use these days.

If there is one area where the R780 is open to criticism, however, is the absence of a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution display). Instead you get a more mundane 1600 x 900 pixels, while adequate for productivity and comfortable to use for those with short sight, do not do justice to the great HD content in movies.
