Sharkoon X-Tatic Dolby Digital Headset
September 28, 2009 | Component, Computer, Games, Headset | 1 CommentWhat separates Sharkoon and his fellows by the tastes of the Saitek Cyborg series defined above is that the X-Tatic Digital comes with its own Dolby Digital decoder box 5.1/Dolby Logic Pro. This makes it ideal for use with any device with an optical audio output, especially game consoles such as Xbox 360 and PS3, but also PCs with digital output and the DVD or Blu-ray. However, it is really consoles that should benefit most, since, unlike most PCs, they do not have analog outputs for surround sound connect.

To emphasize this console focused on the goal, the X-Tatic adds headphone jack for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 – the former via an adapter that plugs into the controller, the latter via a USB connection on the Control Unit (SCU) which also works with a PC. Of course, one disadvantage of these features is the son, many of them. Just to connect an Xbox 360 you are looking for a optical audio cable, an AC adapter that connects to both the SCU and the helmet itself, about three meters of cable from the headset to the SCU and another wire that feeds from in-line volume control to your Xbox 360 microphone support. If you have a specific phobia of wire clutter, this series is probably not for you.
Provided you’re ready for this, however, actually setting up the X-Tatic Digital is relatively simple. Everything you need comes in the box, comprising: an optical audio cable, USB and mini-Jack Cable for Xbox 360 Headset and PS3, adapter dual output power for the SCU and a headset and adapter for analog use the headset without the SCU. If you’re familiar with these things is just a matter of slotting in the correct plugs taken correctly, but if you do not know the instructions are clear and precise.
Once you slip the headphones on you start enjoying what looks like years of evolution. Despite looking and feeling quite large it is set incredibly comfortable to wear. Soft, breathable, cushioning positioned on both headphones and the headband to ensure a firm grip that will not leave you feeling hot and bothered or hurt. This comfort is enhanced by the possibilities of setting used with the cups tilt to fit your head and arms stretch, if you have a head unusually large. Even after a session of three hours we hardly felt the effects of bringing the whole, which is much more than many good helmets have succeeded in the past. [via trustedreviews]
