Many manufacturers offer their laptops in a range of colors, but Sony has been at it longer than most. We can trace it all the way back to the series C in February 2007, which was replaced by the CR Series in August this year, then the CS series last year. Unfortunately, while the outgoing CR was rather smart, the SC has been quite a significant step backwards, so we were not surprised to see quickly replaced by the CW, with the advent of Windows 7.

There are five colors: white, red, pink, blue and black. As you can see, we have the pink version, regardless of personal preferences, is probably the least desirable option of all. Even those who like pink is the best, the most dynamic shadow seen on the lid and palm rests does not fit well with the little patient, the pale shadow implemented on the rest of the machine . No actual complaint can be made other choices, however, and we particularly liked the red / black and white models. As for the overall design, the CW is not a style icon, but it is another solid, well put together machine from Sony. While competitors tend to overcomplicate their designs in an effort to differentiate itself, Sony manages to generate a sense of style in a much more sober. Everything is in the right place and a purpose, allowing your choice of color make the statement – if that’s what you are looking for.

As our model is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 clocked at 2.13 GHz which is supported by an abundance of 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. Sony also had the foresight to install a 64-bit version of Windows 7, so all that the memory system is put to good use. A 512MB nVidia 230M GT graphics card is the slave graph, while for the storage you get a 320GB hard drive Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also present, fill out a complete specification.Connectivity is not too bad either. While the CW is missing eSATA or USB Sleep “and load” capacity, it has mini-FireWire – a connection increasingly rare on laptops lately. Everything else is pretty standard, including three USB ports (2x on the left, 1x right), HDMI and VGA for video, a 34mm ExpressCard slot, audio jacks (1x headphones, 1x MIC), an Ethernet port memory back and separate card slots for Sony’s proprietary formats and the most commonly used SD card.
