If you can not already see the picture below we suggest you find a pair of sunglasses before you scroll down. With the E series VAIO, Sony seems determined to burn the retinas of those who contemplate them. Available with 14 -, 15 – and 17-inch (we have 14in) screen, the E series is sold in renditions bold pink, blue and green. If you want to be boring there are black and white versions too, but we have the pink and it’s very very pink.

Unsurprisingly audacity divides opinion, but there is something to say about the approach of No Holds Barred Sony. If you make a statement with your choice of color, why remember? It allows the basic design of the E series is very strong. As with all Sony VAIO there is no frills and fussy, it is clean, and elegant point. This leaves the color, or lack thereof, to make all the headlines.

Prices and availability of this specification is a bit uneven, but it varies between £ 650 and £ 750. At the top of this range is a bit expensive, but less than 700 pounds is correct. Whatever you end up paying, you will have an Intel Core i3-330M, which clocks at 2.13 GHz and 3MB of cache, with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a 64-bit Installing Windows 7 Home Premium.

These specifications are a good start and they are complemented by a 512 MB ATI Radeon Mobility Radeon HD 5145 graphics card and Wireless-N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet. Most impressive, however, is that the screen has a spacious 14in 1600 x 900 pixels. The same resolution found on Samsung R780 17.3in screen with her, and it is much more generous than the 1366 x 768 pixels found on most machines competitors.

Sony provides a decent amount of connectivity, too. There are four USB ports in total, one does double service as an eSATA port and HDMI and VGA are on hand for the video. There is a trio of different expansion slots: one for 34mm ExpressCard devices, one for memory card Sony property, and one for the SD card format most often supported. Furthermore, on the edge, is a useful wireless hardware switch and two audio jacks – one for headphones, one for a microphone. [via trustedreviews]
