Sony VAIO F12 MOE-BCapable Multimedia Notebook
August 27, 2010 | Notebook, Sony | 1 CommentJust as the Z series, the F12 packs a load of impressive features, but rather than cram into the smallest frame possible, this 16.4in laptop – measuring 263 x 41 x 387mm and weighs 3.1 kilograms – is strongly the desktop replacement category.

Players aside, it has a lot of power to the machine most primary consumers. At its center is an impressive 1.73GHz Intel Core i7 CPU quad-core 740QM that turbo-clocks 2.93GHz. This is supported by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, which is all that most users will need and provided a lot for the 64-bit Windows 7 Premium to be happy with.
For storage there is a generous 500GB hard drive running at 7200 rpm fast, while rights are handled by an optical Blu-ray. Combined with 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and an Nvidia GeForce 330M GT graphics card, this makes for a very capable multimedia device should also have a minimum capacity of games.
Connectivity is also good speed. For wireless, we have wireless N and Bluetooth 2.1, with the addition always appreciated a physical switch wireless. There are three USB 2.0 ports, one of which doubles as an eSATA connector. Then there is a mini four-pin FireWire port, which is becoming quite the rarity nowadays.
Other data ports, including USB 3.0, can be added by the laptop 34mm ExpressCard slot, and two memory card readers to separate owners of Sony MS Pro and more common SD / MMC card. Finally the video we have HDMI and analog VGA, while the audio is handled by 3.5 headphone and microphone, the former that doubles as an optical digital output.
We had a bit of love / hate relationship with the Sony VAIO notebooks over the years, really love the high end Sony VAIO Z series, while cheaper efforts like the VGN-NS30E / S has left us completely indifferent. Entering more than £ 1,000, we hope F12 company news falls into the first category.
