Sony XEL-1 OLED TV Gatgets
May 6, 2009 | Component, Electronics, Gadgets, Sony | Comments OffA few weeks ago in Gadget Show Live, I had the chance to check Sony XEL-1 OLED TV. TV measures 11 “diagonally and is just 3mm thick. The TV has been around a while and, unfortunately, this will be the last Sony OLED TV to work. A spokesperson for Sony admitted “We have really made the XEL-1 just to prove that we could do.” Sony believes that the OLED technology is more suited to mobile devices.

Research / Recent estimates suggest that the major players in the OLED in the future will be Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and Samsung, with no mention of Sony. The television industry OLED only 6 years, should be worth $ 5.5 billion, it seems strange that Sony has pulled the plug so to speak. (We hope to get official word on this issue because it is unlike Sony to withdraw from something like that).
OLED TV are great devices as they have very good contrast 1000000:1, reduces energy consumption and are extremely slim. The current obstacle at present is the cost with the XEL-1 costs about $ 2500 for a 11 “screen. But the technology is less expensive than the progress made and it is only a matter of time when we hold an ultra-thin TV to our wall. [ via gadgetvenue ]
