Toshiba BDX2100 HD DVD Blu-Ray Player
July 16, 2010 | Display, MP3 Player, Toshiba | 2 CommentsThe BDX2100 is the second Blu-ray player launched by Toshiba since the highly publicized disappearance of HD DVD. It is the successor of BDX2000, decent budget game that we reviewed at the end of last year and continues to the range. The BDX2100 is indeed a sanitized version of its predecessor, leading to launch a cheaper price plunging down to less than £ 100 online – the kind of spending that could drag things buyers finally bite the Blu- ray.

Once again Toshiba decorates the bridge fascia with sharp edges and a gloss black finish. The disc tray is very thin, buttonry rare and tiny LED display Keep the front looking clean and minimal. Look towards the bottom right corner and you will see a USB port, which replaces the SD card slot available on the BDX2000 – a wise decision too, because it allows you to connect a wide range of devices.
However, there are fewer connections on the back that you find on the BDX2000, leaving only a basic selection. You get HDMI v1.3, composite, digital coaxial and analog stereo output and an Ethernet port. The BDX2000 also has component video and optical digital audio output, but with HDMI AV handling critical functions their absence is no great loss. The lack of multichannel analog outputs could plan if you leave your AV receiver lacks HDMI inputs, but it is hardly surprising at this price.
More disappointing is that the Ethernet port talents are limited to download the BD-Live content from the Internet. Toshiba has set up a streaming media device in its range of television and later he would have been nice to see a similar feature included here. Most big names rival Toshiba Blu-ray PCs offer DLNA streaming capabilities (Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, LG), is true that these companies have had more time to develop their players and most of them are more expensive than the BDX2100.
Toshiba shamelessly frills approach also means that there is no 3D compatibility (hence the HDMI 1.3 port on the new services v1.4), no access to the Internet as Panasonic Viera Cast and no support for Wi -Fi, either integrated or using a USB key. In fact, there is not even built-in memory for BD Live downloads, meaning that you need to connect a USB storage device of at least 1 GB – and with a single USB port on the front You can not hide it discreetly.
All this is perfectly acceptable if the BDX2100 is considerably cheaper than its peers, but online research and find sales of Sony BDP-S370 for the same sub-£ 100 price tag, a reader equipped with BRAVIA Internet Video , DLNA and networking support for a wireless LAN adapter as an option.
However, the BDX2100 is not completely devoid of features. The front USB port lets you play digital media from storage devices and a list of supported formats includes DivX, MP3, WMA, JPEG, M4A MKV and more from AVCHD Blu-ray. This list is not bad for the money and it is especially nice to see Toshiba MKV adding to the list. [via trustedreviews]
