Toshiba has always had the gift of the happy creation of good multimedia laptop, the Qosmio range including generating plenty of praise over the years. Qosmios, however, have always been expensive, so Toshiba has applied a little special sauce to the Qosmio Satellite A660 and give an irresistible £ 699 price.

This is impressive considering a price of 16-inch machine sports a 500GB hard drive and a Blu-ray. Both add much value to this machine already at competitive prices, and the rest of the spec does not disappoint either. There is a race i3 Intel Core 2.13GHz in his heart, and is supported by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce graphics card with 310M competent 512MB memory clean. Wireless N Wi-Fi is offered as well, if the lack of Bluetooth and use a slower 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet are the first teeth of his identification.

However, the continuation of positive points, Toshiba seems to have finally fallen in love with shiny black plastic. He has not wandered far from his mind preferred materials, opting for a textured finish instead of simple black with hints of brightness on the edges. All-in-all, it is an improvement, although some contrast would be much more than the A660 looks a bit gothic, despite the touches of chrome and white lights here and here.

Another promising aspect with regard to multimedia connectivity is varied on the A660. HDMI and VGA are expected (not required), but one eSATA and USB combo is to be applauded, even if they are becoming more common these days – especially since it supports USB standby charge. Another useful feature is the 34 mm ExpressCard slot, which should allow the addition of an expansion card or USB 3.0 TV tuner should you want a.

Beyond that, there are a couple more standard USB ports, two audio jacks (headphone 1x, 1x microphone) and a memory card reader on the edge that supports SD cards up to 64GB capacity . This should avoid any potential compatibility worries, especially for anyone using one of many HD camcorders now rely exclusively on the SD storage card.

Other signs of the A660 multimedia heritage are the backlight controls above the keyboard, but unfortunately the only “media game” based on concern / pause and volume. Other Toshiba activate “Eco Mode”, switch wireless adapters, and the launch of Toshiba largely pointless Bulletin Board software. Not the best use of space as we might think, but not worth anything in a knot over. [via trustedreviews]
