Toshiba Satellite T130-11H 13.3in Ultra Portable Notebook
March 4, 2010 | Notebook, Toshiba | 1 CommentToshiba has a bit of a pedigree when it comes to ultra-portable computer, the Portégé R600 is the perfect example of his ability to shave and to produce a weight machine incredibly lightweight. Bearing this in mind, it should have the expertise to produce a very good affordable ultra-portable. The T130 Satellite-11h, currently retail for just under 450 pounds, is one of his first attempts.

The machine is adorned 13.3IN in the now all plastic glossy black too familiar. Indeed, anyone with a passing knowledge of the range Toshiba laptop will instantly recognize the T130 because it shares many of its themes of shared vision: glossy finish, printed patterns and a pinch of fake chrome. It is a passably attractive if fairly high maintenance, and that the effect is also available in white and red rather fetching if you prefer.
Being an ultra-portable, the T130 is also very thin and lightweight, weighing just 1.76 kilograms and measuring as little as 22.2 mm at its slimmest point. This percentage increases to 34.2mm at the back where the battery is extended downwards, but it does little to affect the look slim and feel otherwise.
Casting a glance at the spec sheet, however, does highlight some causes for concern. If we were very pleased with the performance of dual-core processors Intel Culver, we are less convinced of the value of the range single-core Pentium SU2700 as the T130 power. It ticks along at a quiet 1.3GHz who, without the help of another identical base, does not leave much leeway – especially given Intel’s integrated graphics will not uproot trees, either.
This is reinforced by a rate of 3 GB of RAM and hard drive 250 GB, and Wireless-N Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both available for the functions of wireless networking. You only get the spirit Fast 10/100 Ethernet, but Wi-Fi is more than fast enough for most needs. The most encouraging for those seeking long battery life – which, after all, is a kind of point of a machine like that – is the presence of a large capacity, 61 watt-hour battery.
Connectivity is also a positive. Among HDMI, VGA and three USB ports is a “Sleep and Charge ‘USB (on the left) that allows you to charge mobile devices even if the laptop is off. This is a common feature on the Toshiba laptop and a very useful too. Other connections include microphone and headphone jacks, and a 5-in-1 memory card reader. [via trustedreviews]
